Elman, Mischa

(20 ene. 1891, Talnoye, Ucrania, Imperio ruso–5 abr. 1967, Nueva York, N.Y., EE.UU.).

Violinista estadounidense de origen ucraniano. Desde los 10 años estudió con Leopold Auer (n. 1845–m. 1930) en San Petersburgo e hizo su debut profesional a los 13 años en Berlín. A continuación, realizó giras por Alemania e Inglaterra y en 1908 se presentó por primera vez en EE.UU. Junto con Jascha Heifetz y Efrem Zimbalist (n. 1889–m. 1985) estableció la "Escuela rusa de interpretación del violín. Admirado por su melodía plena y su estilo apasionado, hubo compositores eminentes que escribieron varias piezas para él.
